There are many factors to consider when choosing your Spring Material.  Some of the most important points are:

  • What is the application?
  • What is the environment the spring will be used in?
  • Will your spring be used in a dry atmosphere (such as inside buildings or equipment), be submerged in water, subjected to high temperatures or in a magnetic or corrosive environments?

Good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance when used in a dry atmosphere (such as inside buildings or equipment), 300 series stainless steel in a large variety of wire diameters such as 302 which has good mechanical properties and general atmospheric corrosion resistance. However, it will not remain rust free long term in environments containing chlorine ions (such as marine atmospheres). The 316 Ti range offers the austenitic structure of 316 stainless steel, gives excellent toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures.

Copper coated wires offers an excellent tensile strength and ductility combination.
